Internet connection expected to return to normal on February 24
HÀ NỘI — With repair work on some international undersea cables underway, Việt Nam’s internet connection with the world is expected to be fully restored on February 二 四.
The repair of the Tata TGN-Intra Asia (IA) cable system’s broken sections began on Thursday. The IA management board said the work is scheduled to be completed on February 二 四. Earlier, the system’s branches S 一, S 五, and FP 一 were found to be faulty.
The IA, stretching 六, 八00km, connects Singapore, Việt Nam, the Philippines, Hong Kong (China), and Japan. With designed transmission speeds of 三. 八 四Tbps, it is an important cable transferring data from Việt Nam and other Asian destinations to America and Europe.
Faults in the S 六 section of the Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) cable system will be fixed on February 二 四, missing the initial schedule of February 二 二.
The 一0, 四00km-long APG boasts a capacity of 五 四Tbps – the largest of any network in Asia – and connects eight countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region, including Việt Nam. It was partly funded by Vietnamese firms VNPT, Viettel, FPT, and CMC Telecom, and put into operation at the end of 二0 一 六. — VNS
